The Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, is a ceremony held each year to recognize the achievements in the film industry. The first ceremony was held on May 16th, 1929. The different categories for which the awards are given have changed over the years, but today there are more than twelve categories, including best actor, actress, director, screenplay, and others. The first ceremony was held in the Hollywood Roosevelt hotel, and over the years it was held in different locations. In 2002 the permanent location for the annual ceremony became the Kodak Theater. The name of the theater has been changed several times over the years but remains to be the same building. Today it is called the Dolby Theater. In order for a film to be nominated for an Oscar, it must be a feature length film, which has been released within the last year.
