The Grammys 2013
The Grammy award ceremony, originally
known as the Gramophone awards, started on May fourth, nineteen fifty-nine. The
purpose of the award ceremony was to recognize or show achievement of the
musical artists from the previous year.
Every year there are four major awards: album of the year, record of the year, song of
the year, and the best new artist. There are also many other awards for each
musical genre. Also, they give awards for album artwork and music videos.
There is a process to how the songs
are selected. Either the artist or the record company sends a song of theirs to
be judged by that year’s panel, which is made up from experts in the music
industry. The panel chooses the winner of each category, and on the night of the
ceremony the winner is announced and receives the famous golden gramophone
trophy. Nominees who didn’t win will still receive a medal for their work.
From nineteen fifty-nine to nineteen seventy,
the awards ceremony was held on the same
day but in multiple cities, such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and
Nashville. In nineteen seventy-one and each year after, the ceremony was held
in just one location, which varied each year. In 2004, the Staple Center in LA
became the place in which it would be held each year after, including this
year.
For this year nominees in the four
major categories, it was narrowed down to the following. The first category is
called the record of the year. The nominees for that category are Black Keys
with their song Lonely Boy, Kelly Clarkson with her song Stronger, Fun with
their song We Are Young and Gotye with the song Somebody That I Used To Know. The second category is called album of the
year. Those nominees are, Mumford And Sons with Babel, and Frank Ocean with
Channel Orange. The third category is song of the year. Those nominees are Ed
Sheeran with the A Team, Miguel with Adorn, Carly Rae Jepsen with Call Me Maybe,
Kelly Clarkson with Stronger and Fun with We Are Young. The fourth category is
the best new artist. Those nominees are Alabama Shakes, Fun, Hunter Hayes, The
Lumineers, and Frank Ocean.
